Who We Are
Val-Ed Joint Venture dba 702 Communications is a locally owned and operated Competitive Local Exchange Carrier in Moorhead, MN. 702 provides retail services that include business and residential phone service, Internet access via DSL, DSX, OCX, and Ethernet. 702 provides wholesale services that include the wholesaling of bandwidth, Long Distance, and fiber transport. In addition, 702 also provides network engineering, management and monitoring for regional transport and data networking.
Val-Ed Joint Venture was formed in 1989 by six independent telephone companies to provide interactive educational video to the schools in their serving areas. The six partner/owner companies are:
- Barnesville Telephone
- East Otter Tail Telephone
- Loretel Systems, Inc.
- Otter Com, Inc.
- Red River Telphone
- Rothsay Telephone
Since that time our service offerings have continued to expand into inter-exchange high capacity, private line, and non-switched services.
Now doing business as 702 Communications, our transport division strives to deliver high-capacity circuits such as T1, T3 and Ethernet in the West Fargo, Fargo, Moorhead, Dilworth, Wahpeton and Breckenridge markets over our own fiber facilities. Any circuits on 702-owned facilities are considered “on-net.”
Target customers for 702’s transport division include major banks, hospitals, educational institutions, cell providers, local ISPs and enterprise manufacturing firms as well as independent and incumbent LECs for interexchange connectivity.
702 Communications is also partnered with independent LECs in northwest Minnesota under the brand Aurora Fiber Optic Networks. The Aurora Fiber Optic Networks product is characterized by high service levels, flexible route diversity and a coverage area encompassing the majority of Minnesota. Cisco ONS 15454 fiber optic terminals serve the majority of the service locations in the Aurora network. This architecture allows 702 Communications, via the Aurora Fiber Optic Network product, to provide a wide line of service offerings from DS1, DS3, OC3, OC12, OC48, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet. Any circuits on Aurora facilities are considered “partnered on-net.”
Target customers for Aurora include all those types indicated above with an emphasis on companies that have offices in multiple locations across northwest Minnesota.
As a CLEC, 702 Communications does business in Fargo, West Fargo and Wahpeton in North Dakota; and Moorhead, Dilworth and Breckenridge in Minnesota.
As a transport company, 702 has access to fiber encompassing much of greater Minnesota extending from the Canadian border southward with POP’s in the following major hub sites: East Grand Forks, Bemidji, Moorhead, Fargo, Sioux Falls, Windom, Owatonna, Wadena and St. Cloud. 702 also has access to fiber in most smaller communities within the sphere of the major sites listed.
